The Desire to Serve, The Courage to Act, The Ability to Perform.

The Nora Springs Fire Department is completely volunteer with 22 men and women serving. The Nora Springs Farm and Fire Service Company has a long history or providing emergency services for Nora Springs and surrounding communities.

The company was started in  on March 15, 1900. In 1905, the annual budget was $201.03.  The first fire chief was named in 1921 and our first truck was purchased in 1927. Our current fire station opened on April 23, 1972.

Today, our fire department provides direct response services to 85 sq. miles, which includes the city of Nora Springs, 29 sq. miles in western Floyd County, 13 sq. miles in Mitchell County, 41 sq. miles in Cerro Gordo County, and 17 lineal miles along the Avenue of the Saints, which accounts for the large portion of our responses. Nora Springs Farm and Fire also supports other communities including Rudd, Rockford, and Mason City directly through Mutual Aid Agreements. In the event of a large disaster our department assists other locations as well.

Our volunteer firemen go through hundreds of hours of training’s annually. This includes 180 hours for Fire Fighter 1 certification (all new recruits), 3 hours of monthly routine company training (864 hours annually), 130 hours to achieve EMT certification plus 24 extra hours every two years. EMR Certification requires 45 hours plus an extra 12 hours every two years. All our volunteers also train 8 hours every two years for Hazardous Materials Operation. All of this time does not include monthly update meetings, emergency response, fund raising, school/educational activities, or other community events.

Our firemen of the Nora Springs Fire Department are proud to serve our portion of Floyd County and surrounding communities, no matter the emergency.
